ABOUT

Dr Frank Lipman

When a plant’s leaves are turning brown you don’t paint the leaves green. You look at the cause of the problem. If only we treated our bodies the same way.

Samuel Hahnemann

The highest ideal of cure is the speedy, gentle, and enduring restoration of health by the most trustworthy and least harmful way.

Sir William Osler

It is much more important to know what sort of a patient has a disease than what sort of a disease a patient has.

I’M DONA

My vision is better mental health for everyone through safe, effective and gentle techniques.

As an integrative psychiatrist, I use my holistic approach and my passion for living life to the fullest to empower others to live a fulfilling life of meaning and purpose.

If you have been struggling with mental illnesses and have not found medications to be helpful, or if you are a mental health professional looking for more solutions, my book, blogs and online courses are for you.

MY STORY

My interest in a holistic approach began in childhood, when I suffered debilitating asthma and it was only through a holistic approach that I found relief. I decided to specialise in psychiatry due to my desire to connect to people as individuals, each with their own unique story. However, for many years I was frustrated by the simplistic models in conventional psychiatry, and I began to explore nutrition, neuromodulation, mind-body medicine, energy psychology and spirituality. I have learnt to keep an open mind and examine the evidence behind many novel therapies and techniques that are coming to the forefront now. I gained expertise in functional and integrative psychiatry, neurofeedback and other neuromodulation techniques like transcranial direct current stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, audio-visual entrainment and photobiomodulation among others. I also trained in limbic therapies like EMDR, EFT and RESET therapy.

About 10 years ago, I developed postnatal depression and had to go on antidepressants myself. After a couple of years of stability, whenever I attempted to wear myself off medications, invariably after a few weeks I would feel terrible and have to go back on them. I tried to wean off three times but each time I was unsuccessful, no matter how slowly I did it. It was only when I used integrative techniques and harnessed the power of nutrition, nutrigenomics and neuromodulation, that I was finally able to come off medications without experiencing withdrawal symptoms. To this day I continue to use many integrative techniques to optimise my mental health because I believe in practicing what I preach!

In my practice I use many modalities including nutrition, genetics, QEEG, neuromodulation like heart rate variability training, neurofeedback, AVE etc as well as yoga, energy psychology and spiritual techniques to offer clients choice and control.

Embracing a new paradigm involves a steep learning curve and a complete revision of one's existing beliefs, which is why there is initial resistance. I have thus made it my mission to help brave and motivated mental health professionals integrate these modalities easily into their clinical practice without the overwhelm.
